Minolta Maxxum 7000 Body w/ AA Grip – Early “XX” Version, Works Fine
This is a Minolta Maxxum 7000 body with the original AA battery grip—and the rare early version featuring the crossed “XX” nameplate, the one that sparked a trademark battle with Exxon in the mid-1980s.
Functionally, it still works well—shutter fires, AF system responds, and meter behaves as expected. That said, there’s some LCD bleed in the top panel (a common issue with these), and the grip’s plastic is beginning to crack in places. Still comfortable in hand and fully usable, but it’s definitely seen some years.
The “XX” logo version is a unique bit of camera history. After Exxon sued Minolta over the stylized “XX” in the Maxxum logo, Minolta spent millions rebranding and retrofitting cameras. Many early models were returned and came back with corrected faceplates reading “MAXXUM” in a plain line—all caps, no crossed X’s. Finding one of the originals with the old nameplate still intact is becoming increasingly uncommon.
Great for collectors of rare variants or anyone interested in the early days of autofocus SLR tech. Batteries not included.
