Nikon Focusing Screen Type G2 – Original 1970s Packaging (F, F2 Series)
This is an original Nikon Type G2 focusing screen, complete with its early 1970s Nikon packaging. The foam insert inside the box has deteriorated with age (as they all do), but the screen itself remains protected in its original plastic sleeve and is in excellent condition.
The G2 screen was part of Nikon’s expansive modular system for the F and F2—offering photographers the ability to customize their viewfinder for specific tasks. The G2 is a ground glass screen with a central microprism spot, ideal for general purpose and moderately fast lenses. It provided a bright, clean image across the frame while still offering reliable manual focus aid in the center.
This level of user-configurable viewfinder experience was a key reason why the Nikon F and F2 systems dominated professional photography throughout the 1960s and ’70s. The G2 remains one of the more sought-after screens for shooters who still work with these cameras today—or collectors assembling a complete system.
Rare to find with original Nikon-branded packaging from the era.
