🎬 A Roll with a Story
Every now and then, something lands in your lap that feels serendipitous. That’s what Dizzy’s Cut is—a thousand-foot roll of 500T motion picture film pulled straight from the trenches of a movie set. But not just any movie: a low-key early-2000s teen comedy with a cult following and some surprisingly hilarious lines—The New Guy.
I didn’t know any of this when I first got the film. It came to me through a friend—a photographer who knew a guy who worked in local cinema circles. One day, that friend texts me asking if I have a decent point-and-shoot for his girlfriend. She’s getting into film and wanted something basic, reliable. I just so happened to have a Canon SureShot Z115 lying around.
He offered a trade: the SureShot in exchange for a thousand-foot roll of 500T film. “Came from a movie,” he said. I didn’t ask many questions. I just said yes.
🌀 Origins of the Name
Six or seven months later, I finally got curious about where that film came from. Turns out it had been shortened on a production set and salvaged before it was tossed. I dug deeper—and realized this wasn’t just any roll. It had been used on The New Guy. I’d just watched it recently—thought it was ridiculous but funny in a very specific early-2000s way.
The character that stuck with me? Dizzy Gillespie Harrison, played by DJ Qualls, a criminally underrated actor. And then it clicked. I decided to honor that chaotic, absurd energy by naming the film after him.
Thus, Dizzy’s Cut was born.
📦 What You’re Getting
This is a limited numbered series. Every roll is cut, hand-spooled, and labeled with its number. Only 20 rolls will be released without the remjet layer—for those who want to shoot it like Cinestill. Once they’re gone, that’s it.
This isn’t just expired film. It’s saved film. Film with a story. A roll that could’ve been lost to time, now reborn to make images again—one chance per frame.
🎥 A Philosophy in Emulsion
Maybe that’s what I love most about analog. You get one shot. There’s no buffer, no second take. Each frame is a decision. That resonates with me, and I think it resonates with a certain kind of shooter—the ones who embrace the moment, flaws and all.
Dizzy’s Cut is for them.
🛒 Where to Get It
First come, first served. No restocks. If I ever find another reel tied to a forgotten production… that’ll be another story for another day.
Shot something special on Dizzy’s Cut? Tag it or send it my way. I’d love to see what stories this stock still has left to tell.
