Martin’s 50 Film – Vision3 5203 Respooled
Martin’s 50 is a respooled Kodak Vision3 5203 film, a daylight-balanced motion picture stock originally rated at ISO 50 and designed for maximum color accuracy, ultra-fine grain, and wide dynamic range. This is Kodak’s most modern 50D cinema film, widely used in professional productions and now made available for still photographers.
We recommend shooting at box speed (ISO 50) in bright daylight or controlled lighting setups to take full advantage of its low grain structure and rich color fidelity. This film excels in capturing natural skin tones, crisp shadows, and smooth highlight rolloff—hallmarks of the Vision3 line.
Martin’s 50 is designed for ECN-2 processing, the standard for motion picture film. However, it can also be cross-processed in C-41 chemistry if a remjet removal prebath is performed. This typically involves a warm water soak with baking soda or a commercial remjet remover to eliminate the anti-halation layer before developing. While cross-processing in C-41 may result in shifts in contrast, color, or density, it remains a viable option for home developers or labs that do not support ECN-2.
Expect a clean, cinematic look with soft color transitions and extremely fine detail—especially when scanned properly. Martin’s 50 is ideal for photographers looking to bring a modern motion picture aesthetic to their still photography.
