Where light meets patience.
Solstice .8 is one of the slowest color films ever made — an experimental 35mm film designed for creative photographers who want to explore long exposures, motion blur, and meditative shooting. Rated at ISO 0.8, it captures subtle color tones and deep shadow detail with cinematic softness.
This film is based on Kodak 2242, a professional color internegative duplicating film originally used for creating intermediate elements in the motion picture workflow. Unlike typical color negatives, internegative film offers ultra-fine grain and unique tonal control — now available in 35mm format for still photography.
Key Features:
• ISO 0.8 – best used in full sunlight or with exposures of several seconds or more
• Process: Compatible with both C-41 (standard color lab) and ECN-2 (motion picture film process)
• Base: Clear polyester for archival scanning and stability
• No remjet layer – safe for home development or commercial labs
• Fresh, professionally spooled from cold-stored stock
• 36 exposures per roll – 2-roll pack
Best For:
• Long exposures with a tripod
• Pinhole photography
• Abstract city scenes or slow-moving portraits
• Shooting motion or time-lapse in daylight
• Creating mood with natural light gradients
Recommended Techniques:
• Use manual settings with a tripod and cable release
• Expose generously — bracket at ISO 0.8, 1.6, and 3.2
• Meter for highlights; experiment with color correction filters if desired
• Try shooting between 11am–3pm for maximum light
Storage & Handling:
• Store cold (fridge is ideal); shelf life is 12+ months unopened
• Handle in subdued light — film has no antihalation layer, which can increase halation or fog if loaded in bright conditions
Who It’s For:
Solstice .8 is best suited for experienced film photographers or adventurous creatives ready to experiment with long exposure workflows. Not recommended for point-and-shoot cameras or low-light conditions.
